About

Also located inland from the banks to the Rio Napo, Sacha has been sharing the mysteries of the rainforest with visitors for many years.  Located in a mix of primary and secondary forest, the lodge is slightly closer to the community of Coca, allowing for shorter longboat transfers.  Sacha places a very high emphasis on their accommodations and food, with 26 native style cabins dotting the landscape (all cabins are air conditioned).

Unique to the region, Sacha offers a 940 foot long suspended canopy walkway – an unmatched opportunity to travel along the treetops and witness the wildlife from a completely different perspective.  Another chance to get above the action is a 135 foot tall observation tower built around a kapok tree (the tallest trees in the forest).  A recent addition is a canopy crane: a 150 tall crane, with a 300 foot boom circumference, and a hot air ballon style viewing basket.

Additional highlights might include guided forest walks, creek paddling, a walk-through butterfly conservatory (one of the largest in Ecuador), Yasuni parot lick, nighttime caiman-spotting paddles, a native community interpretation center, and a lake plunge pool, complete with mesh netting to keep the wildlife out!

Sacha programs are available daily (except Sundays when there are no flights) traditionally 4 or 5 days in length.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1∙ Quito – Sacha Lodge

This morning transfer to the Quito airport for a 30-minute flight over the Andes to the Amazon Basin jungle frontier town of Coca. Following a quick lunch at the Sacha house a mini-van transfer whisks to the river port, where you will board motorized long-boats for a 2 hour excursion down the Napo River. The journey is half the fun as the farther downriver, and away from civilization, you travel the more the riverbanks and surrounding forest come alive. On arrival at the Sacha river dock an elevated boardwalk leads you well inland to the serene Pilchicocha Lagoon and the lodge.

Similar to Galápagos there are typically morning and afternoon outings, plus the occasional nighttime foray. This afternoon enjoy your first outing into the surrounding jungle! [L,D]

Days 2, 3 & 4 ∙ Sacha Lodge

Three full days of active guided exploration in and around the Yasuni National Park and Sacha's protected forests, streams & lakes. [B,L,D daily]

Day 5 ∙ Sacha Lodge – Quito

Early this morning begin the return journey to Coca via longboat, and Quito via plane. Upon your mid-day arrival in Quito you will be met and transferred to the Hotel Mercure Alameda Quito. Remainder of day at leisure in Quito. Overnight Quito. [B] Lunch & dinner on your own. Overnight at Hotel Mercure Alameda - hotel not included in Sacha package.

Sacha Lodge programs lengths are flexible, although we suggest the 5-day/4-night itinerary to give you adequate time in the jungle – shorter and longer stays are also possible (the only restricting factor is that there are no flights to/from Coca on Sundays). Like the Galapagos, you have traveled a long distance to experience the Amazon Basin, so don't cut the experience short if you have the time.
